- I have been living her for over 10 years, and i have never found these spiders inside my home. I only come accross them when i am gardening- except for one male who was out strolling one night. This young lady( no spur) is one of many i come across,i had disturbed her, but i have now relocated her to a less human occupied habitat.I have posted a photo of her web, and also of her rearing up on her back legs.
- This was her home under a sandstone rock.I find webs, similar to this in my sandstone retaining wall, which has lots of mulch and is moist and dark.I live in a very bushy, hilly part of Sydney.
- When i first moved into an area known for its Funnel web spider population. I headed off to the Australian Museum, saw an excellent spider exhibition there, and i bought a very helpful book from there called, 'Spiderwatch'.Whiist i am no expert, i do have enough knowledge not to fear dangerous spiders but to respect them.I found this speciman very close to where we entertain and where children play, i had disturbed her from her home, and she stayed in this defiant stance for about 10 minutes. She has now been relocated, im not so worried about her- she leads a reclusive life, i just dont like the type of boyfriends she attracts. Do you agree with me that she is a Sydney Funnel web spider?
