Introduction
There are over 32,000 species of fishes. This species must have one of the best standard names of them all!
Identification
The species is named from the Greek zapotes, or hard drinker. Its standard name refers to the red anterior nasal tube. View a colour image at Fishes of Australia.
Distribution
The species occurs in the Caroline Islands, Gilbert Islands, Papua New Guinea, Scott Reef off north-western Western Australia and the northern Great Barrier Reef, Queensland.
