Description

Field activities by staff at the Australian Museum, particularly the innovative use of baited traps, have resulted in significant collections of cirolanid isopods and other taxa. These collections include undescribed species and new distribution records. Many of these species play an important role in ecosystems as scavengers and may be pests of commercial fisheries.

The aims of this study are:

  • To identify specimens of Cirolanidae in Australian Museum collections to species
  • To describe any new species in the collection
  • To document any range extensions for material identified
  • To revise identification keys to the Cirolanidae
