  • Hi there. I live in Canberra and I have a few redbacks in my garden. I don't know how to deal with them. I have two young kids (1.5 and 3 yo). If I tell them not to touch the spiders, the first thing they will do is go there and touch it. If I don't say anything, they may eventually touch it (even not on purpose, under a pot or I don't know what). And I can't teach them to recognize it, because they are too young for that. I am quite affraid of spiders myself, but I try to have a "relaxed" behaviour with them, because I want my kids not to be affraid of spiders. So what should I do? Will I really know if my kids are bitten? (if they are quite tolerant with pain, they may just complain mildly and I would not see that they need medical attention...) Otherwise, if I see they are bitten and I can't find the spider, should I go to the hospital? Should I buy now an antivenom or I don't know what, just in case? Should I move any red back away as soon as I see it? Should I always check everywhere around the house? Thanks for your help! (sorry for the possible mistakes, English is not my native language)
