Kristel and NSW Art Gallery paintings conservator Simon Ives set up the XRF to analyze blue pigments on a panel painting from the Australian Museums collection. The XRF can help identify the elements used to make up the pigments on a painting. This type of information can help us make decisions about dating and authenticity.
