Side view of Peking Man skull Homo erectus

Description

Discovered: Zhoukoudian, China. Dated to about 500,000-300,000 years old.

The original ‘Peking Man’ skull was reconstructed using a mixture of male and female fossils whereas the modern reconstruction by I. Tattersal and G. Sawyer combines fossil pieces from males only.

The white areas on the cast are those that have been reconstructed by the scientists, and were not original material.
