Image: Neck ornament,Tonga E81627
Provenance: Tonga, Polynesia, Pacific
This shell and seed necklace comes from Tonga. In the past, overseas buyers have called for local people to collect shells for monetary payment per kilogram. This has, in many cases, led to over-collection and potential harm to ecosystems. This necklace was donated by Dr Brian Symons in 1988.
Description: white foram shell discs with white job's tear seeds and black seeds.
