Image: Long Horned Grasshopper - Willy Bruechle
This long-horned grasshopper was sitting on a flower in our garden last summer. It took me a while to find out from where this sickle-bearing bush-cricket (Phaneroptera falcate) got his English name katydid. Their song supposedly sounds like “Katy did, Katy didn’t,” hence the name. Obviously in Germany they appear only in hot summers; I had never seen one before in our garden.
