This Ikat Adat or traditional ikat is a sarong for women. It was made in Gunung Bolong village on Adonara Island, east of Flores, in 1970. The ikat is associated with a famous legend of the area about a special orange stone. According to the legend, when a lightning struck a spot in the Gunung Bolong area, water began flowing from it. A voice commanded a woman to dig in that place leading her to discover the stone.
