Image: Goldsaddle Goatfish, Parupeneus cyclostomus, Solomon Islands, 1998
The Goldsaddle Goatfish, Parupeneus cyclostomus, has two different colour phases. The fish in the image shows the dark phase with blue markings on the scales and a yellow spot behind the second dorsal fin. In the second colour phase the entire fish is yellow.
Fishes comprise up to 70% of the food intake of the Goldsaddle Goatfish. This is unusually high compared with the diets of other goatfishes.
The Goldsaddle Goatfish in the image was collected in the Duff Islands, Solomon Islands.
