Image: Glass Vessel - Jenny Pollak

This is the beautiful structure that remains after this organism, a type of Radiolarian, has died. Less then one quarter of a millimetre in length, its delicate structure is made of silica. This particular specimen is came from a precious sample collected in 1892 from a fossilised source in Barbados by Captain Perry. When I photographed it I was reminded of an ancient vessel
