An Australian male giant water bug (Diplonychus sp.) sits under the water caring for eggs stuck on his back by the female after mating. The male strokes the eggs with his hind legs to maintain a fresh flow of water to them. After three weeks the eggs hatch and the egg cases fall off the male's back. Photographed in Jamberoo, NSW
