Image: Cast of an arrow head
Description
The first arrows were probably made of wood and have not survived in the archaeological record. Stone points identified as probable arrow heads have been found in Africa and date to about 60,000 years ago. More complex arrows bound by sinews to split shafts were being made from about 18,000 years ago. The oldest known bow fragments are from northern Germany and date to about 10,000 years ago.
