Additional information
The species can be recognised by a combination of characters that include the following. It has a stocky body and its eye is positioned well away from the dorsal margin. The dorsal fin originates behind the pectoral fin base. The dorsal and anal fins do not fold away into scaly sheaths. The lateral line scales are larger than the other body scales. The upper lip is not joined to the head near the snout tip.
