This hand-woven and hand-spun cotton sarisuri si tolu tuho is ceremonial shoulder cloth from the Simalungun or Karo (Batak) people of Northern Sumatra, Indonesia. It was made in the early 20th century. Its design consists of three sections, possibly representing the triangular relationship between brothers, sisters and brothers of the mother. It is over-dyed in indigo. Size: 260cm x 86cm.
