Image: Australian White Ibis with leg bands
This Australian White Ibis Threskiornis molucca has been banded with coloured plastic bands plus a numbered metal band. The placement of colours helps researchers and volunteers easily identify each banded bird from a distance. Other information, such as weight, age, sex and breeding status would also have been noted at time of banding.
Banding Ibis has allowed researchers to work out their movements, habitat use and population dynamics
