What's in the Box - a busy beginning
It's only February and there are already 330 Museum in a Boxes booked for 2010. With all of the refurbishment and program planning it has been a busy beginning to the year.
Bookings opened in November 2009 and by the beginning of January there were over 200 boxes booked. With the bookings flooding in and the continuation of the refurbishment program it has been a very busy start to the year.
The new Freshwater box developed in conjunction with Sydney Water will be ready early March. This box replaces the Life in Freshwater box and has been expanded to include some exciting new water quality monitoring equipment and learning resources. The new content will provide a glimpse into life in fresh water, how we impact it and the action we can take to improve our catchments.
The development of the Skeletons Box is well underway and is due for release in July and is already fully booked for 2010. A light box is incorporated into the lid of the box and x-rays and embedded animals skeletons are provided as well as many hands-on specimens, real objects, puzzles and games.
Keep an eye out for the new content in the Indigenous Australian boxes with additional specimens, books, DVDs and teaching resources added last year the boxes are looking better than ever. There has also been a change in the structure of the boxes with new titles:
- Art and Performance
- Bush Tucker
- Cultural History
- Living on the Land
The Penguins box is also being refurbished with a new Fairy Penguin specimen to be added and updated teacher’s resources and new books and DVDs.
As I said it has been a very busy year!
If you haven't used Museum in a Box for a while or never thought it would be useful at your school now is a good oppurtunity to have a closer look. With all the new content there is sure to be something to inspire your students.
