How to use Facebook as an educator

Teachers shouldn't shy away from using Facebook ... and neither should museum educators.

According to the latest from Edublogs, The Why and How of Using Facebook For Educators – No Need to be Friends At All!, there are plenty of reasons to use Facebook in educations settings. Some of the reasons they give:

  • that’s where your students (and their parents) are
  • better privacy settings allow for improved security
  • as educators we have an obligation to model appropriate online behaviour

There’s some useful tips about friending students (and they recommend you do) as well as the benefits of a fan page.

Overall a good read and lots for museum educators to learn from this. My earlier post, Teaching the Facebook Generation is relevant to this discussion also.

So, what are you waiting for??
