The Plastiki Expedition sets off on their final leg to Sydney
The Plastiki left Samoa this morning (our time). The crew has been replaced, the Plastiki restocked, spirits are high and they will sail into the harbour in 30 to 40 days time – Good luck crew!!
After years of planning the plastiki is finally heading to our shores. This amazing vessel has been in Samoa undergoing repairs for the last leg. The Pacific Ocean may be a bit rough this time of year so it is important to ensure the Plastiki is strong enough to withstand all weather conditions. Andy Dovell who is the Plastiki’s designer and is from Sydney flew to Samoa to oversee the repairs.
Two of the original crew members Vern and Max have rejoined David D, David T and Jo for this final leg. Unfortunately Jo will be the only female again!
I wish them a safe journey and I cannot wait to see them sail in through the heads. What an adventure and what a great way to bring awareness to the state of Oceans and demonstrating possible solutions to waste. I have learnt a lot from David and he inspires me to do more to helping the environment.
See you in Sydney team!
