Hi again wgodinho.  According to one authority, E. rufopileus is only known from Lord Howe Island, Middleton and Elizabeth Reefs, Norfolk Island, New Caledonia, Fiji and Tonga. He says that only E. atrogulare and E. hemimelas are known from New South Wales.  The three species have been confused.

Another author recorded it from New South Wales and Queensland in 1993, but this could possibly have been based on misidentifications of E. atrogulare or E. annulata.

Hi wgodinho.  The Australian Fauna Directory listing for the species (at http://www.environment.gov.au/biodiversity/abrs/online-resources/fauna/afd/taxa/Enneapterygius_rufopileus), lists the distribution for the species as Lord Howe Island, New South Wales: SE oceanic and Norfolk Island.  The distribution of the species has not yet been assessed in the current upgrading of the AFD.  I will contact Doug Hoese about this and get back to you as soon as I have something to report.

Hi Mark, is Enneapterygius rufopileus still found in NSW? Or they seem to be E. atrogulare? They are very similar in morphology, isn't it? THanks
