Location, Parking and Public Transport
Find out about the Museum's location, how to get here using public transport and where to park your bicycle or car.
Location
The Australian Museum is located on the corner of College Street and William Street in central Sydney, just across the road from Hyde Park and opposite St.Mary's Cathedral.
Public Transport
Trains
The nearest train stations are St.James, Museum and Town Hall. Each are of equal distance to us and are an easy and mostly level seven minute walk.
- Please note that Museum Station does not offer lift access.
Buses
The Museum is on the Hop-on Hop-off bus route and is a seven minute walk to the centre of the city. For George Street bus services, get off at Town Hall and walk east along Park Street.

Bicycles
The Museum is conveniently located on the Sydney Cycleways Network.
Bicycles may be secured to the bicycle rack at the base of the Museum entrance steps on College Street.
Car Parking
Parking stations
There are two parking stations within easy walking distance of the Museum. Check their websites for rates, times and maps:
- Secure Parking, Riley Street
- Enacon Parking, Cathedral St (under Cook and Phillip Park)
To take advantage of the special rates for Museum visitors at Secure Parking in Riley Street, simply ask our Admission staff for a Universal Rebate Ticket (URT) to use when paying as you exit the parking station.
Parking meters
There is metered parking available on streets near the Museum.
