This site uses Biomaps to plot maps and display collection data and from all major Australian natural history museums. If you only wish to view the Australian Museum holdings, once Biomaps opens, click on the link to 'Insititutions' in STEP 1.
The collection is currently only retrievable by scientific name.
Please note that after plotting a distribution map, the data are cached. Do not use the back button if you wish to plot a different map. Instead, click on the 'Start a new map' button.
The Australian Museum fish collection contains over 1.5 million specimens. Most of these specimen records are retrievable, however records that contain sensitive data or are only partially identified will not be displayed.
We are continuously working to improve the accuracy of the records in the database, but there is still considerable work to be done. We take no responsibility for the use of these data.
