Wildlife Photographer under the media spotlight

Will controversy 'dog' our Wildlife Photographer of the Year opening?

With only one day to go before Wildlife Photographer of the Year opens in our downstais exhibition space, we have seen stories in the media - both here and in the UK - about the winning photograph and questions about its authenticity. Versions of the story are in the Guardian, the Sydney Morning Herald and Daily Telegraph.

Our colleagues at the Natural History Museum in London (who run the competition) are following this one up, and we'll post updates on the story throughout the run of the show here.

If you get the chance to come in and see the collection, do drop a comment in here and let us know what you think of that photo - and of this year's collection as a whole.

I think that if the wolf photo was a set-up (and I would say it looks quite possible) then the photographer should clearly be disqualified. What sort of wildlife photography contest allows photos of glorified pets? It would make a mockery of real wildlife photgraphy.

I have to say that I do still love the photo, but it has lost a bit of its magic once you realise it was staged. There's nothing like seeing an image that captures that rare micro-second moment...
