Handheld technology in museums

What are museums doing about handheld guides?

Just came across this email about an international survey on Handheld Guides: Their use, challenges and the future.

This survey explores why the museum community uses/is interested in mobile interpretation and the medium's future. The survey was developed by Loic Tallon and Learning Times and further information can be found here.

We did a study on handheld technologies several years ago. While the report is old I still get requests for it so have attached the pdf document on the right-hand side of this page.

There was also a discussion about the future of the audio tour on Museum 3.0 - the social network for museum professionals that may be of interest.
