Information about opening times, charges and how to pay at the Australian Museum.
Opening times
The Australian Museum is open 9.30am to 5.00pm every day except 25 December.
General admission
- $12 Adult
- $6 Child (5 -15 years)
- $18 Family (1 adult + 2 children)
- $30 Family (2 adults + 2 children)
- $3 Additional child (each)
- $8 Concession:
Senior Cardholders (Australian & international), ISIC (all tertiary students), Language and international school students including groups, Australian Government cardholders (eg unemployed, healthcare cards) with the exception of 'Blue' Pensioner Concession Cardholders (see below)
- Free Children under 5 years
- Free Australian Museum Members
- Free Australian Government DVA Gold Cardholders
- Free Australian Government 'Blue' Pensioner Concession Cardholders
- Free ICOM Members
- Free Companion of a person with a disability (on presentation of the Companion Card)

Special exhibition: Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2009

Admission to Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2009 includes general admission to the Australian Museum:

- $43 Family (2 adults + 2 children)

- Free Children under 5 years
- $12 Concession
- $3 DVA Gold Cardholders and Blue Pension Cardholders

Payment
Payment is made at the Admissions Desk, Level G. You can pay by cash, EFTPOS or any credit card except Diners Card. Card payments are only for amounts of AUS$10 and over. Australian Concession and Seniors cards must be shown at Admissions to receive the reduced rate admission charge.
Re-entry
Museum
If you leave the Museum re-entry is free on the day. Please ask for a re-entry ticket on leaving the Museum.
Temporary exhibitions
For temporary exhibitions where admission charges apply you will be issued with a ticket. You can usually leave the exhibition and re-enter on the same day provided you show your ticket and the exhibition is not extremely busy.
Photography
Flash and video photography are permitted in all permanent exhibitions and most temporary exhibitions. Please check with an Australian Museum staff member before taking photographs in the Indigenous Australians: Australia's first peoples exhibition.
